My criteria for a favorite movie is one I can watch once a year, at least, without getting bored by it entirely—if I become bored with a scene here and there, well, that’s what the remote is for.
I first saw West Side Story, topping my list eternally, when I was 16, and since then I’ve lost count, but I’d estimate I’ve seen it upwards of 40 times. I take issue with some of the politics, but there’s so much to see in WSS that I catch something new with almost every viewing, and I have no doubt I’ll be watching it till the day I die. Most of the others—which aren’t in any kind of order—I’ve seen an average of four times each.
West Side Story
My Fair Lady
On a Clear Day You Can See Forever
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
DRAMA WITH MUCHO COMEDY
(I wouldn’t classify these as strictly drama or strictly comedy. I believe they call them dramedies these days. They’re also pretty much chick flicks.)
Back to the Future (first one only!)
Shallow Hal/School of Rock
My Cousin Vinny
Hannah and her Sisters
Crimes and Misdemeanors
Husbands and Wives
Small Time Crooks
Bad News Bears (Original only! from 1976)
